Yoga for Everybody and Every Body
by Chamar Drane
Most people I have come across already have an idea of what Yoga is. Perhaps it’s breathing and stretching, or turning one’s body into a pretzel for Instagram. Maybe it’s a fun way to maintain flexibility and mobility as our bodies age.
Maybe it’s staying healthy in pre- and postnatal stages, or reconnecting with a loved one. It could be an ancient form of worship some still practice today, a fun way to get or stay in shape with friends, or a private way to heal or meditate. Personally, I think it’s all these things.
I have heard (and claimed!) an enormous amount of reasons not to try or practice yoga. “I’m not flexible.” “I have bad balance.” “Yoga isn’t enough for what I need.” “I’m not in good enough shape.” Or, the one I hear the most, “I’m too busy.”
Now, my (usually) gentle response is, ”That’s why you need Yoga. It not only helps with balance, strength and flexibility in mind and body, when you find your type of yoga, it takes your body to its physical limits and expands them. As for being too busy… We are all too busy. Too busy with our jobs, hobbies, families and friends. But taking the time to find our personal way to practice yoga adds time to and enhances the quality of our lives. That’s why I teach yoga. I love helping people with their personal goals, whether it’s to be able to finally look over your shoulder, feel at peace in your life or body, do the full expression of Tree Pose for three minutes or even play Pickleball. Teaching and sharing yoga is my favorite challenge and blessing. I have found people with similar mindsets at Jillian’s Healing Arts Center, where there are many classes and private lesson opportunities. I hope you, Reader, take the opportunity to try us out, and begin or continue to enrich your personal practice.
Chamar Drane is one of the many awesome yoga instructors at Jillian‘s Healing Arts Center. Her classes are all-inclusive, fun, slightly challenging, and a great way to reconnect with your amazing Smart Body. Chamar also offers private yoga lessons to allow for students personal goals to be realized. Her passion lies in helping her students overcome challenges, such as a stiff neck or back, weakness in legs causing poor balance, hip tightness, and much more. After working with her students, one-on-one just for a few sessions, they see improvement in their flexibility, strength, balance, and confidence. When Chamar is not teaching yoga or offering private yoga lessons, she is spending time with her husband and two daughters, her parents, her friends, and teaching music to preschoolers. If you didn’t guess already that Chamar is pretty awesome, it is evident by the fact that she teaches preschoolers.
